Since 1989 the Bruiser Conversions team has been refining the diesel conversion program for the Jeep Wrangler. With the recent release of the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine this program has evolved to meet the ever-changing demands, and Jeeps, of our customer base. We now offer fully integrated turn-key engine conversions for the Jeep JK/JKU Wrangler.

Bruiser has engineered all the components required for installation of the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine into the late model Jeep TJ Wrangler. Whether your vehicle is equipped with an automatic or manual transmission, we have a conversion solution to meet your needs. Our conversion integrates the Cummins supplied PCM with the factory systems of the Jeep Wrangler, providing a fully operational instrument cluster and maintaining the OEM functions available prior to the conversion process.

Automatic Transmission Equipped Jeep TJ Wrangler Required Upgrades:

Early model JK/JKU Wranglers equipped with an automatic transmission require an upgrade from the 42RLE/32RH/30RH. Bruiser has selected the NAG-1/722.6/W5A580/WA580, the factory automatic found in the 2012-2017 Jeep JK/JKU Wrangler, for use with our Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine conversion. This compact 5-speed automatic transmission is rated at 580 ft-lb torque input capacity. It has been used in a wide range of vehicles including the Dodge Challenger, Chrysler 300 SRT8, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Dodge Magnum SRT8, and the supercharged Jaguar X308. Turn-key engine conversions includes a low-mileage transmission, wiring harness and a performance tuned TCM. The transmission upgrade includes a new center console assembly and automatic transmission shifter, allowing the driver access to the late-model tap shift option and updating the OEM software to include PRNDL display functionality on the OEM instrument cluster.


Bruiser Conversions uses the following parts for installation of the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel Engine:

Bruiser Gateway Module:

The Bruiser Conversions R2.8 Gateway Module is necessary to maintain factory functionality of all vehicle features and systems when performing a Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine conversion in the Jeep Wrangler. All features that were available prior to the conversion will be operational after the conversion has been completed. Included parts:

Bruiser R2.8 Wiring Harness:

Bruiser Conversions' wiring harness for the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine connects the Cummins engine harness, the Bruiser Gateway Module, and Cummins supplied PCM to the Jeep Wrangler's systems and features. It has been designed to cleanly route through the engine bay and passenger compartment. The harness includes an OBD port to allow for system diagnostics of the Cummins PCM and retains the factory OBD port for communication with the OEM vehicle systems. Included with the wiring harness:

Engine Mount Kit:

Bruiser Conversions has engineered self-positioning engine mounting brackets for the Jeep TJ Wrangler. The Cummins R2.8 engine mount kit includes:

• Engine side brackets

• Frame side brackets

• Hydraulic engine mounts

• Hardware for engine mount brackets

Radiator & Intercooler Bracket Kit:

The ensure clear air flow through the intercooler and radiator, and ensure proper clearances in the core support area, Bruiser Conversions has developed brackets to position them in the correct location. The OEM radiator and core support are used for the conversion, these brackets are intended for installation of the Bruiser Conversions Intercooler Kit. The kit includes the following:

• Spacers for upper radiator mount locations

• Lower radiator brackets

• Intercooler brackets

• Radiator & Intercooler bracket hardware pack

Bruiser R2.8 Intercooler Kit:

This intercooler has been engineered to work with Bruiser's Radiator and Intercooler bracket kit. This unit is custom built for installation with the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine. Kit includes:

• Bruiser TJ Wrangler Intercooler

• Silicone couplers

• Clamp pack

R2.8 Air Intake Parts Kit:

The Bruiser R2.8 Air Intake Parts Kit locates the air filter behind the passenger side headlight, providing ample room for the mass air flow sensor to be installed, ensuring proper clearance between the engine and other critical components. The R2.8 Air Intake Parts Kit includes:

• AEM Dry Filter

• Aluminum intake tube

• PCV hose and clamps

• Silicone boots and couplers

• T-bolt clamp pack

Cooling System Hose Kit:

These hoses allow the installer to connect the relocated radiator to the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine. Early models will also require the Bruiser Radiator & Cooling Fan Upgrade Kit::

• Upper Radiator Hose

• Lower Radiator Hose Assembly

• Heater hoses

• Hose clamp pack

Radiator & Cooling Fan Upgrade Kit:

Early model Wrangler vehicles were equipped with a lower CFM cooling fan. Bruiser Conversions has developed a system to retrofit these vehicles with a late model cooling fan. This kit includes:

• New Radiator

• 2012-17 JK/JKU Cooling Fan

• Bruiser Cooling Fan Module

• Cooling Fan Wiring Harness

Fuel System Modification Kit:

The fuel system modification kit comes with the necessary components to convert your fuel system from gasoline to diesel. This is required component when installing the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine in the TJ Wrangler. Our fuel system kit includes:

• Fuel Filter Mounting Bracket

• Brass Fittings

• Rubber Fuel Hose

• Rubber Return Hose

• Clamps

• Hardware for filter mounting bracket

Transmission Control Module:

Upgrading to the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine also requires a new TCM. The Bruiser Transmission Control Module will operate the NAG-1/722.6/W5A580/WA580*** transmission after the conversion process is complete:

Automatic Transmission Upgrade Kit:

TJ Wrangler vehicles were equipped with the 42RLE, 32RH, or 30RH transmission. None are capable of handling the increased power input of the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel. Bruiser Conversions uses the NAG-1/722.6/W5A580/WA580 transmission for these upgrades. It is designed to withstand a torque input up to a 500 ft-lb and has an optimal gear ratio spread for the Jeep Wrangler, it includes:

• Transmission shifter

• Transmission wiring harness

• Low-mileage NAG-1/722.6/W5A580/WA580 transmission, with torque converter

• Transmission fill tube & fluid level indicator

• Transmission fluid cooler

• Transmission cooler lines and hoses

• Console/Shifter Adapter Bezel

Transmission Mount Relocation Plate:

Since the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel moves the driveline from the factory mounting location, this plate corrects the transmission mount location. The plate bolts to your OEM crossmember and will use the OEM transmission mount.

Transmission to Cummins R2.8 Adapters for 1997 - 2006:

Bruiser Conversions has developed engine to transmission adapters for the following transmission models. Each adapter will include the hardware required for installation:

• Automatic (Upgrade) - NAG-1/722.6/W5A580/WA580

• Manual (OEM) - NSG370 6-speed

• Manual (OEM) - AX15 5-speed

• Manual (OEM) - NV3550 5-speed

Air Conditioning Upgrade Kit for 1997 - 2006 TJ Wrangler:

The Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel crate engine is not equipped with the correct brackets to position the A/C compressor in the Jeep Wrangler, the stock Cummins bracket positions the compressor in such a manner that the control arm will make contact with the A/C compressor. The crate engine is not shipped with an A/C compressor. Please specify the year of your vehicle when placing your order as there are differences in the line configuration between models. This optional upgrade includes:
